How to Add Character References to a BeatViz Workflow Music Video

Adding a character reference is optional, but it is one of the most effective ways to tell Workflow who should appear across scenes. BeatViz currently supports up to two character slots in a Workflow task.

Three ways to add a character

Open Workflow and find the character selection in the setup. You can:

  1. Upload a character image. Files can be up to 10 MB. BeatViz removes the background when the character is saved.
  2. Select a preset character offered in the interface.
  3. Generate a character image from a prompt. The AI character-image generation costs 2 credits; you then name the character and BeatViz removes its background.

Choose one character for a solo-performance video or use both slots for a two-character story. More characters can be hard to keep consistent in this particular workflow.

Upload, pick a preset, or generate up to two character references for first-frame generation.

How BeatViz uses the character image

The background-removed character image is automatically passed to first-frame image generation as a reference. The first frame then becomes the visual starting point for a video segment. Character appearance is not simply repeated in every video prompt as descriptive text; this helps avoid conflict with the visual reference.

A character reference is not itself the video start frame. Before rendering a scene, open its actual first frame and check that the correct person appears. The video generator will not invent an accurate portrait of your reference if the first frame shows someone else.

Can you change the character after setup?

Yes. Workflow lets you adjust the two character assignments later on scene cards. That is different from Editor's project-level character setup. If you delete a reference, it is no longer automatically reattached to that task's first-frame generation.

Practical tips for two characters

Use a clean, clearly identifiable image for each character. For scenes containing both people, inspect the generated first frame closely before starting the video. When writing prompts for two characters, refer to them by their image positions—such as reference image 1 and reference image 2—rather than repeatedly specifying clothing or hairstyle that may conflict with the uploaded images.

What happens if you do not add a character?

Workflow can still create a video. However, when no consistent identity reference is supplied, the model may choose different-looking people for successive scenes. If the same singer, actor or protagonist matters throughout your music video, add a reference first and review every scene's first frame.

FAQs

Does uploading a character automatically fix every scene?

No. It guides first-frame creation, but individual frames still need review. See Keep Characters Consistent.

How many characters can I add?

Up to two in the current Workflow setup.

Is a character generated by AI free?

No. The documented character-generation charge is 2 credits. Uploading or selecting existing characters is a different action.
