How to Add, Reorder, Trim, and Replace Timeline Clips
The BeatViz Editor timeline combines your song with a sequence of completed video clips. The song forms the audio track, while the video track above it contains the shots you want to show. It is designed for building a continuous sequence: video clips sit directly next to one another, without empty gaps between them.
Step 1: Generate a video before adding it
You can only place a finished video with an available file URL on the timeline. Generated images stay in the Images library, and jobs that are still running or have failed cannot be inserted.
If you need footage first, follow How to Generate AI Video Clips or create a shot using Chat.
Step 2: Add your video to the timeline
On desktop or tablet, drag a completed video from the Videos library onto the video track. BeatViz inserts it into the sequence and shifts later clips to close the edit. Dragging a clip changes its position in the sequence; it does not create blank space or anchor a shot at any arbitrary lyric timestamp.
On mobile, tap the + at the end of the video track, choose a completed video in the video-only picker, and add it to the end. Tapping a video in the ordinary mobile library previews it; that action alone does not insert the video.
Step 3: Change the order of your shots
Rearrange clips on the timeline as the song evolves. For example, you might begin with a wide establishing shot, continue with a performer close-up, and use a more energetic scene when the chorus arrives. When you insert, delete, or reorder clips, the later clips reconnect automatically.
Step 4: Trim a clip
Trim the section of a video you want to use. Trimming adjusts the in and out points within the source video. After trimming, playback speed returns to 1x. Keep an eye on the song length: clips should fit within the supported timeline range.
Step 5: Replace or remove footage
You can replace or remove a timeline clip as you refine your edit. You can also select an existing timeline clip for local regeneration. These edits change your timeline sequence; your project's generated media remains in its library according to the application's normal asset behavior.
Exception: While a clip is undergoing LipSync, it is locked and cannot be dragged, trimmed, or deleted.
Work with specific sections of your audio
Classic allows you to select a section of the song and use it as audio context for video generation. This does not mean the video track supports leaving a gap until that timestamp. Timeline clips still form a contiguous sequence.
During preview, playback follows the project's audio. For a completed lip-synced clip, the preview can play that video clip's own audio so the mouth movements align with what you hear. Export is different: the final MP4 uses the original project song. Learn more in Lip Sync and Export.
Can Chat place a video on the timeline?
Yes. On desktop and tablet, you can drag a finished video as usual. Chat can also be asked to place an already completed video. When no placement time is specified, it appends the clip after the last one. Requests that overlap existing clips or extend beyond the song are rejected. On phones, use the + button at the end of the track.
